KOTA TINGGI, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- The situation in Felda Sungai Mas, one of the localities identified with a Tuberculosis (TB) cluster in the district, is under control, with follow-up measures being implemented under the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) supervision.

Felda Sungai Mas manager Mohd Azhari Dohadi said daily activities in the area continue as usual, with residents advised to remain calm, maintain personal hygiene and comply with health advice issued by the MOH.

“The MOH has explained that screenings are being carried out as early preventive steps, and the public should not panic,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Mohd Azhari said his team has also taken proactive measures to ensure the situation remains under control, including disseminating information on hygiene practices to residents.

These measures include installing reminder posters, sharing awareness videos via community WhatsApp groups, and broadcasting health information on public television channels.

In addition, Mohd Azhari said Felda Sungai Mas has also taken precautionary steps by not organising activities in enclosed spaces, in line with MOH advice.

Felda Sungai Mas is home to 697 settlers, with nearly 2,000 residents.

Yesterday, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the cluster was detected on Jan 25, with 33 positive cases identified from screenings conducted on 804 close contacts as of Feb 4. He said MOH teams are currently on the ground and taking aggressive measures to curb the spread of the cluster.

Tuberculosis, or TB, is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and spreads through air to close contacts. TB symptoms include a persistent cough, significant weight loss, loss of appetite, night sweats, and coughing up blood.

Bernama’s check in the area earlier found that residents were going about their daily activities, while businesses continued to operate as usual.

Most residents were also seen not wearing face masks while outdoors.
