N.Sembilan Needs Additional 3,600 Teachers, 450 Classrooms For 2027 Year One Intake

04/02/2026 06:14 PM

SEREMBAN, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- Negeri Sembilan needs at least an additional 3,600 teachers and 450 classrooms to accommodate the 32,364 Year One students expected to register for the 2027 schooling session.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the figure comprised the 16,018 six-year-olds and 16,346 seven-year-olds who will be entering Year One.

He said the need for additional classrooms and teachers is crucial to ensuring the learning sessions in schools statewide run smoothly.

"However, the Negeri Sembilan Education Department (JPNS) will evaluate whether there is an actual need for an additional 450 classrooms by looking at the student capacity in each school.

"Schools in rural areas may not have any problems, but those in urban areas, especially Seremban, Nilai, Sendayan and Port Dickson, may face issues with student density and the implementation of two schooling sessions, as practised now,” he said after chairing the executive council meeting here today.

Aminuddin, also the Port Dickson Member of Parliament, said student density is among the issues requiring immediate attention and measures to resolve it can hopefully be implemented early through detailed studies and continuous improvement.

In addition, he said the state government hopes that the Ministry of Education (MOE) will consider providing additional teachers in Negeri Sembilan to address the higher enrolment of students next year.

Aminuddin said they are also scrutinising the Port Dickson District Land Office's application to turn about 400 hectares of mangrove land into a permanent forest reserve.

"This will have a positive effect in the future because we want to see green areas that will become food sources for marine life and a habitat for some bird species,” he said.

In another development, Aminuddin said 2,500 female civil servants working in the state will be allowed to go home as early as 2 pm every Friday during Ramadan, while male workers will have to return to work as normal after completing their Friday prayers.

Meanwhile, Aminuddin called on Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) to take appropriate action to prevent a recurrence of yesterday's incident, where a road user fell into a sewage pit that was under construction.

"The IWK must place ample warning signs to ensure the safety of road users,” he said.

On Monday (Feb 2), a 14-year-old boy was killed after falling into a 10-metre-deep sewer when the motorcycle he was riding pillion on with his brother crashed along Jalan Bunga Tanjung, Tamping, Negeri Sembilan.
