KUALA NERUS, Jan 30 (Bernama) -- A total of 2,351 summonses were issued during the Special Motorcycle Operations conducted in Terengganu from Jan 1 until yesterday, said state Road Transport Department (RTD) director Mohd Zamri Samion.

He said the summonses resulted from inspections of 7,438 vehicles, including motorcycles, cars and other private vehicles.

During the same period, RTD also issued 101 prohibition notices, 117 vehicle inspection notices, 312 notices to attend investigations and 73 seizure notices.

“A total of 1,063 vehicles were taken action against for various offences. The most common offence among motorcyclists was failing to wear helmets.

“Other offences included vehicle modifications, failure to display registration numbers, non-compliant registration plates and other technical violations,” he said during the Special Motorcycle Operations at Pantai Seberang Takir here today.

Mohd Zamri said under a separate special operation targeting illegal street racing, commonly known as Mat Rempit, RTD issued 2,409 notices and seized 268 motorcycles during the same period.

He said RTD Terengganu will intensify the Special Motorcycle Operations this year, particularly at identified hotspots including Bandar Baru Kuala Nerus, Jalan Mengabang Telipot, Jalan Padang Nenas, Jalan Durian Burung–Manir, Jalan Wakaf Beruas–Bukit Payong, Jalan Chendering, Kampung Teluk Ketapang, Kampung Losong and Jalan Taman Tamadun Islam.

The move, he said, was prompted by an increasing trend in motorcycle-related offences in recent years, with 25,358 summonses issued under the Special Motorcycle Operations last year compared with 23,457 in 2024.
