28/01/2026 08:31 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- The success of 115 engineers passing the Professional Competency Examination (PCE) 2025, which simultaneously qualifies them to apply for registration as Professional Engineers with a Practising Certificate (PEPC), strengthens the reputation of the country's engineering profession, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

While congratulating the successful individuals, Nanta said the achievement reflects the high level of competence, professionalism, and capability of local engineers in meeting engineering standards recognised nationally and internationally.

Out of 583 candidates who took this exam simultaneously in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak, 115 candidates successfully passed the set passing level.

"This success is not only a source of pride for the candidates, but also strengthens the reputation of the country's engineering profession," he said in a statement today.

The examination was held on Oct 25, last year, for Paper 1 (Common Paper) and Oct 26 for Paper 2 (Discipline-Specific Paper), while the examination results were officially announced by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) on Jan 22 and can be checked through the portal https://engineer.org.my.

Nanta said the professional competency examination conducted by BEM is also recognised internationally, ensuring Malaysian engineers possess qualifications and competencies equivalent to global standards.

He said that under the Registration of Engineers Act 1967 (Act 138), BEM plays an important role in regulating the engineering profession, assessing the level of professionalism, and ensuring public safety and national interests are always protected.

Meanwhile, he encouraged more local professional engineers to take the PCE as an important step to advance their careers, strengthen professional credibility, and contribute their expertise to national development.

"The government sees the need to produce more registered professional engineers to support the national sustainable development agenda. In this regard, qualified engineers are urged to seize this opportunity and bravely step up to a higher professional level," he added.

For those who were not successful in PCE 2025, appeals can be submitted to the BEM no later than Feb 6, and all appeals will be considered transparently according to existing guidelines.

Meanwhile, applications for PCE 2026 will open from April 1 to Aug 31 via the BEM online application system, with further information to be announced through the official portal of BEM's communication channels.
