Crackdown On Overloaded Heavy Vehicles Is Year-round, Not Seasonal - Loke

28/01/2026 02:00 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- Law enforcement against heavy vehicles, including operations under Op Perang Lebih Muatan, will be carried out year-round and not on a seasonal basis, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.

He stressed that industry players must fully comply with the law or face firm action.

“Last year, we launched large-scale operations against overloading, and they had a significant impact by demonstrating the government’s seriousness in addressing this issue.

“However, some parties assumed enforcement ended last December. So, I want to make it clear that enforcement activities are ongoing at all times and remain a core responsibility of the Road Transport Department (JPJ),” he said in his 2026 New Year Address at the Ministry of Transport assembly today.

Loke said the Op Perang Lebih Muatan, conducted from Oct 14 to Dec 31 last year, inspected 169,965 heavy vehicles, of which 3,563 were found overloaded.

As a result, 6,843 notices were issued to drivers and vehicle owners, along with 4,983 summonses under the Road Transport Act 1987.

Loke also warned industry players against prioritising profits by carrying loads beyond permitted limits.

“If violations are detected, firm action will be taken. Do not assume enforcement has been halted or relaxed,” he said.

Beyond heavy vehicles, Loke said JPJ enforcement this year will also place strong emphasis on overall road safety, including tackling drunk driving, illegal street racing and improving motorcycle rider safety.

“Enforcement is not only about heavy lorries. Drunk drivers, illegal racers and the safety of motorcyclists must also be addressed seriously and strengthened,” he said.

He added that continuous enforcement is aimed at ensuring safer roads for the public and demonstrating the government’s commitment to transport law enforcement.
