MELAKA, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- A total of 3,270 laptops, contributed by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), were handed over to 38 Schools in Camps (SDK) belonging to the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) as part of the government's ongoing efforts to empower the education ecosystem and enhance access to technology, in line with the Ministry of Education's (MOE) Digital Education Policy.
The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) Strategic Communications Unit said in a statement that the laptops were handed over to five SDK representatives at the Terendak Camp and Sungai Udang Camp, namely Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) Terendak, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kem Terendak, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kem Terendak 1, SK Kem Terendak 2 and SK Kem Gerak Khas.
It added that the presentation ceremony was officiated by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin during his one-day working visit to the camps today.
Also present were MINDEF secretary-general Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali, Army Chief Gen Datuk Azhan Md Othman, Commander of Army Field Command West Lieutenant General Datuk Malek Razak Sulaiman and Commander of the 3rd Division Major General Datuk Mohamad Suria Mohamad Saad.
Mohamed Khaled also officiated the symbolic presentation of RM25 million allocation for maintenance and teaching aid for the SDKs for 2026 to Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff Royal Malaysian Air Force Brig Jen Mohd Sam Mohd Yusof, and handed over the educational assistance to the children of MAF personnel, comprising students who are persons with disabilities and suffer from chronic illnesses.
Mohamed Khaled was also given a comprehensive briefing on the implementation of the MAF hospital development project and the upgrading of the water reticulation system by MINDEF Development Division, Technical Services Branch director Hanafi Abdullah, which covered the detailed work scope, current progress status and the project's comprehensive implementation planning.
"The new RM320 million MAF hospital development project was approved under the Second Rolling Plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) in 2022. Physical work began on Nov 14, 2024, and it is scheduled to be completed on Jan 10, 2029, with a capacity for 150 beds to replace the existing facilities, which are more than 60 years old.
"This hospital will provide general medical, specialist and dental services, with part of the facility open to the local community, thereby benefiting MAF and MINDEF personnel, veterans and the general public,” it added.
It also said that the project to upgrade the water reticulation system was approved under the Fourth Rolling Plan of the 12MP, in collaboration with the Public Works Department (JRK), to address the issue of water supply at the Terendak Camp, which encompasses work to upgrade the existing reticulation system to ensure a safe, sufficient and sustainable water supply.
Mohamed Khaled, the statement added, also visited the MADANI Economic Programme site, where Phase 1 of the Mushroom Urban Farming Project is showing positive achievement.
"As of Dec 31, 2025, the project has yielded 100.532 kilogrammes of mushrooms, thus proving the effectiveness of the smart technology approach, as well as supporting a sustainable income generation in line with the MADANI Economy aspirations, in addition to having the potential to become a model for the implementation of sustainable agro-technology at MAF camps,” it added.
Mohamaed Khaled also visited the Armed Forces Family Housing (RKAT) in Jalan Kenanga, which is part of the initiative to empower the welfare of MAF personnel and their family members.
"This project aligns with the aspirations of the MADANI Camp, which emphasises sustainability, welfare and economy to improve the standard of living of MAF personnel,” it added.
