23/01/2026 06:29 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has lifted the temporary access restriction on X’s Grok artificial intelligence (AI) application with effect today, following confirmation of the implementation of additional preventive and security measures by the social media platform.

In a statement today, MCMC said the decision was made after a meeting on Wednesday involving the Ministry of Communications, MCMC and representatives of X to obtain clarification and commitments regarding preventive measures and compliance with Malaysian laws.

“X has confirmed that the required security measures have been implemented on the Grok application,” the statement said.

According to MCMC, after taking into account the explanations and initial confirmation provided, the commission has lifted the temporary access restriction imposed on the Grok application, subject to continuous monitoring by the authorities.

It stressed that user safety remained a priority and any failure to comply or violations of Malaysian laws would be dealt with firmly.

On Jan 11, MCMC ordered a temporary restriction on access to Grok AI for users in Malaysia following repeated misuse to generate obscene and sexually explicit content.
