HAWANA 2026 Campus Tour To Feature A1, Digital Technology Sharing - bernama CEO

20/01/2026 07:51 PM

JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- The HAWANA Roadshow with Students programme this year will feature a sharing session on artificial intelligence (AI) aspects as one of the programme highlights to guide students in understanding digital technology and their responsibilities when using the Internet.

Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin said the AI sharing session would be combined with other topics such as media literacy, basic journalism, and the Safe Internet Campaign, to ensure students are aware of the fundamentals of digital technology, including relevant regulations and laws.

“The AI sharing session will be included in our programme because it is a hot topic everyone is talking about,” she told reporters after officiating the closing ceremony of HAWANA 2025 Roadshow with Polytechnic Students at Ibrahim Sultan Polytechnic (PIS) here today.

Earlier, Nur-ul Afida, who also chairs the HAWANA 2026 Working Committee, said as an agency under the Ministry of Communications, Bernama’s role is to raise awareness about existing digital policies, initiatives and regulations so that university students understand their responsibilities as ethical social media users.

She said the sharing on AI and basic journalism would help students filter information, practice responsible digital communication, and support the development of a media-literate society with integrity.

“Students need to build their character with these foundations during their studies so that they can protect themselves, their families, and society, and steer clear of unproductive activities,” she said.

Nur-ul Afida said the HAWANA 2026 Roadshow will also continue nationwide in line with Bernama’s aspiration to help shape an ethical, media-literate generation capable of facing the challenges of the digital era.

Also present at the programme today were Polytechnic and Community College Education Department director (Student Recruitment and Development) Azirin Abdul Aziz; Bernama editor-in-chief and HAWANA 2026 working committee deputy chairman Arul Rajoo Durar Raj and deputy editor-in-chief cum HAWANA 2026 project director Mohd Shukri Ishak; and PIS deputy director (Academics) Tengku Nadzion Tengku Ibrahim.

The one-day programme, attended by over 500 students and lecturers, was held in collaboration with PIS and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission as strategic partners.
