TAWAU, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- The monthly Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) payment for singles credited today may be modest, but it provides crucial support in meeting basic needs, according to recipients in Sabah.
For a 40-year-old delivery worker, Mohd Awil Hamsani, the RM50 may be small to some, but it helps him purchase essentials such as personal care items and food.
“I work as a delivery rider, so my income isn’t fixed. The SARA aid helps me get by and buy some necessities.
“On top of that, with the aid credited monthly through MyKad, I don’t have to go to the bank to withdraw cash and can spend directly, which saves time,” he told Bernama here today.
Another recipient, Mohd Zarif Baili, 39, from Bandar Sri Indah, said the MyKad-based SARA aid makes things easier for people with disabilities like him.
“After an accident eight years ago, I lost a leg and now use a prosthetic, which limits my movement and makes it tiring to walk for long periods or distances.
“When the monthly SARA aid goes straight into MyKad, it makes things much easier, and I use it to buy personal care items or food,” he said.
Nazrini Badarun, 40, from Felda Umas, said the government aid felt like a monthly bonus that helps cover living expenses.
“It may be small, but it’s something. I’m grateful for this ‘bonus’. It helps me get through when I need it,” he added.
