Sarawak Flood Evacuees Drop Further

SIBU, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- The number of flood evacuees housed at temporary relief centres in Sarawak has dropped to 507 people from 158 families as of 4 pm today, compared with 611 people from 194 families reported this morning.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) said four temporary relief centres remained in operation in the Sibu and Bintulu divisions.

“In Sibu, the relief centre at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bukit Assek is accommodating six evacuees from one family. In Bintulu, the Dewan Suarah relief centre is housing 251 people from 73 families,” it said in a statement.

According to JPBN, the number of evacuees at Balai Raya Sebauh and SMK Sebauh relief centres has also declined, with 143 people from 51 families and 107 people from 33 families currently housed there, compared with 150 people from 54 families and 177 people from 54 families recorded this morning.
