KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 5 (Bernama) -- Civil servants have been reminded to manage their salary increase prudently and with discipline, while continuing to enhance service performance for the people.
Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) president Datuk Dr Adnan Mat said the salary adjustment represents the government's appreciation and recognition of public servants' contributions and commitment in ensuring the continuity of efficient and integrity-driven services.
He said CUEPACS had taken note of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s statement that the salary increase was implemented based on the country’s financial capacity, with total expenditure implications estimated at RM18 billion.
“CUEPACS advises public servants to manage the increase in income prudently and with discipline, prioritising basic household needs as well as long-term financial planning.
“Higher income should not lead to excessive spending that may eventually place financial pressure on individuals and their families,” he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Adnan expressed appreciation to the MADANI government for its continued commitment to safeguarding the welfare of public servants, including the implementation of the second phase of a seven per cent salary increase this month under the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA).
“This move reflects the government’s seriousness in ensuring the well-being of public servants while remaining aligned with the nation’s fiscal responsibilities.
“In return for the trust and substantial investment by the government, CUEPACS hopes that public servants will continue to improve work performance, strengthen integrity, enhance productivity, and deliver the best possible services to the people regardless of background,” he said.
CUEPACS also called on civil servants to continue supporting the public service reform agenda and to demonstrate loyalty to the MADANI government in efforts to build a more sustainable, just and prosperous nation.
Civil servants who opt for the SSPA will receive the second phase of salary adjustments under the system in the Jan 22 salary payment, with the increase calculated based on their final salary as at Dec 31, 2025.
Under the first phase of the salary adjustment, the Executive Group and the Management and Professional Group received an eight per cent increase while the Top Management Group received a four per cent increase, paid in December 2024.
Earlier today, Anwar in his address at the monthly assembly and 2026 address said the quality of public service must be in line with the implementation of the improved SSPA, as the people are entitled to more efficient and faster services.
