19/12/2025 10:31 PM

CYBERJAYA, Dec 19 (Bernama) -- The Preschool Curriculum 2026 will place stronger emphasis on shared reading between parents and children to boost early literacy, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

Speaking at Malam Kota Buku 2025 here tonight, she said the initiative includes the creation of dedicated reading spaces in preschools to encourage parental involvement through reading activities.

Fadhlina said the initiative has received full support from Perbadanan Kota Buku (PKB) and strategic partners to ensure effective implementation at the preschool level.

She said the practice of reading physical books remains important and must continue to be reinforced through initiatives such as NILAM, or Nadi Ilmu Amalan Membaca, which will be strengthened next year.

Malam Kota Buku 2025 highlighted PKB’s role as an agency under the Ministry of Education (MOE) in developing infrastructure and implementing structured reading programmes.

Separately, Fadhlina said several book industry–related focus areas will be prioritised in 2026, alongside efforts to promote the ethical use of digital technology in expanding access to quality reading materials through collaboration with PKB.

Also present were MOE secretary-general Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim and PKB chief executive officer Adibah Omar.

The event also saw the presentation of recognitions across the book ecosystem, including industry players, schools, reading communities and strategic partners, to promote excellence and cross-sector collaboration.
