AKPS Interview Sessions Begin, Many MAF Special Forces Veterans Apply - Adly

19/12/2025 04:08 PM

MELAKA, Dec 19 (Bernama) -- Interview sessions for the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) staff intake have begun, attracting strong interest from Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans, particularly those from elite security units.

Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said most applicants for the AKPS vacancies are veterans from special units, including the Special Service Group (GGK), the Naval Special Forces (PASKAL), the Air Force Special Forces (PASKAU), and airborne units.

“To date, many have contacted me to express their interest in joining AKPS to continue serving after retirement. We welcome their applications, but the recruitment process, interviews and final selection for the approximately 200 vacancies are fully managed by AKPS.

“This is because the Ministry of Defence, through the Department of Veterans Affairs, only plays a coordinating role in preparing the list of eligible veterans to attend the interview sessions,” he said.

He told reporters this after attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an additional building for the Special Education Integration Programme (PPKI), under the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) initiative for the Bukit Katil state constituency at SMK Bukit Katil here today.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh officiated at the ceremony, which state Public Works Department director Mohamad Salzeli Moktar also attended.

Adly said updates on recruitment, including the number of successful candidates, will be provided periodically, with the final list expected in January.

Last month, AKPS director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the agency will begin recruiting 220 MAF veterans in stages starting next January, as part of an initiative under Budget 2026.

The recruitment for support roles, he added, will proceed through contract appointments once funding is secured, following a model used by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks.
