SHAH ALAM, Dec 16 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) today received business tithe amounting to RM22.15 million from 56 companies, which was presented at the Muzakki Recognition and Zakat Handover Ceremony (IMTIYAZ) 2025 here.
Dherbs Holdings Sdn Bhd topped the list of companies contributing the highest business tithe with a total of RM2 million, followed by Open University Malaysia (RM1,512,614), Afed Holdings (RM1,465,000), Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (RM1,172,000), and Central Spectrum (M) Sdn Bhd (RM1,093,836).
Also handing over business tithes of RM1 million each were the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), Koridor Utiliti Selangor Sdn Bhd, Board of Land Surveyors, and Wawa Global Sdn Bhd.
LZS Chairman Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail received the tithe on behalf of the Selangor Zakat Board at the ceremony, which was also attended by LZS Deputy Chairman Tan Sri Ambrin Buang and LZS Chief Executive Officer Mohd Khaidzir Shahari.
Meanwhile, Mohd Khaidzir, in his speech, informed that LZS recorded a tithe collection totaling RM827 million as of last October, enabling them to make a distribution of RM1.04 billion.
He said the collection involved 335,499 tithe payers, including individuals and corporate companies, during that period.
"At the same time, the end of the year also sees an increase in household needs, including preparation for children's schooling, the cost of living, and health needs, which are usually at their highest level.
"To ensure the continuity and effectiveness of tithe distribution to the recipients (asnaf), an estimated RM346 million more is needed throughout this December, which demands a high commitment from tithe payers so that no asnaf is left behind," he said.
Mohd Khaidzir said that to ensure tithe can continue to play its role as a superior social justice mechanism, LZS is committed to further expanding the network of payers and the efficiency of tithe management, in addition to ensuring that every cent of the tithe is managed with full trust and integrity.
At the ceremony, LZS also handed over tithe to four individuals totaling RM346,238, covering assistance for house construction, business, and medical needs.
LZS also handed over a Government Employer Wakalah (Agency) of RM83,921.17 to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang (HTAR) as the employer who implemented tithe deductions through the Monthly Zakat Instalment (AZB) amounting to RM671,369.36 involving 700 staff members throughout 2024.
