GOPENG, Dec 16 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in Perak has organised 1,835 MADANI Rahmah Sales Programmes (PJRM) this year, benefitting more than two million people.
Its director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said the number of programmes represented an increase of 94.6 per cent compared with 943 last year.
“This reflects PJRM’s effectiveness in helping to ease the cost-of-living burden across various segments of society in Perak.
“KPDN remains committed and will continue to organise PJRM to ensure the people of Perak will benefit from the purchase of essential goods at discounted prices of around 10 to 30 per cent,” he told a press conference after launching the Fun Ride for Rahmah and Jiwa Murni Pengguna Mesra programmes with the Ulu Geruntum Orang Asli community here today.
Kamalludin said Perak KPDN would also organise the Back-to-School PJRM at 58 locations this month and in January to help students and parents obtain school necessities at below market prices.
“For us, the organisation of this programme is very meaningful as it provides an opportunity for parents to purchase school uniforms, shoes, bags and stationery at reasonable prices,” he said.
On the programme with the Orang Asli community, he said it was held for the first time in collaboration with Selangor KPDN and was also aimed at engaging with the people in Ulu Geruntum to ensure they receive information on facilities and cost-of-living assistance provided by the government.
He said the programme also enabled the team to explain the scope and functions of KPDN as one of the entities implementing government policies to the community.
“We carried out advocacy programmes with the locals here as they are among the groups who face difficulties in accessing information, particularly related to KPDN,” he said.
