Govt To Focus On High-impact Dakwah In 2026, Prioritising Family, Social Issues

15/12/2025 07:03 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- The government will focus on implementing high-impact dakwah (Islamic propagation) programmes next year, with emphasis on strengthening the family institution, promoting the responsible use of social media, and addressing social issues.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, said throughout this year, more than 3,000 dakwah programmes were successfully conducted, describing it as a remarkable achievement.

“InsyaAllah, for 2026, we will focus less on the number of the (dakwah) programmes. It does not matter if there are fewer of them, as long as each programme has a meaningful impact.

“We aim to cultivate a MADANI society that not only possesses knowledge but, most importantly, upholds good values,” he told reporters after officiating the Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah (YADIM) appreciation ceremony and the closing of the 2025 National Dakwah Programme, here today.

Regarding social media, he said that efforts to educate the public on responsible and respectful online behaviour must be emphasised.

“We hope that YADIM’s dakwah (programmes) will also include guidance on educating the public, particularly (married) couples. Social media should not be used to shame one’s partner, as it does not solve any problems,” he said.

Mohd Na’im said the government, through YADIM and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), will continue to hold dakwah programmes targeting specific groups, including issues related to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

“JAKIM does have specific programmes to educate the LGBT community, but I want to emphasise that now all parties and religious institutions have a role to play in developing related programmes,” he added.
