KOTA BHARU, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) has identified two key components for the implementation of the MADANI Sekolah Angkat (Adopted School) programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Raja Bahar here, said vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Arham Abdullah.
He said the programme is funded by a RM100,000 allocation from the federal government, channelled through the Finance Ministry under the initiative.
Arham said RM80,000 of the allocation is earmarked for the first component, which involves upgrading the school’s resource centre into a facility inspired by the digital library concept.
“The remaining RM20,000 will be used for the second component, which involves the implementation of three development programmes covering academic enrichment, character building and other initiatives involving pupils and teachers,” he told Bernama after officiating the launch of the MADANI Adopted School programme at the school, today.
He said SK Raja Bahar was selected as UMK’s adopted school due to the school’s strong leadership, the pupils’ strong potential, and the school community's solid support.
“We are confident that with continuous guidance and a conducive environment, the school can become a model 21st-century institution that balances conventional and digital learning,” he said.
Arham said the programme provides a platform for UMK to extend its academic expertise and university experience to the primary school level, ensuring that the benefits of education can be experienced from an early age.
He said the partnership also allows the school free access to reading materials from the UMK library, with discussions ongoing with the State Education Department to extend the initiative to other schools.
“This initiative enables the university to make a direct impact on the community, especially through book lending and educational support,” he said.
Earlier, 19 pupils at SK Raja Bahar received school supplies along with RM100 in cash each.
