Media Strategic Partner In State Development, Not Mere Observers - Ab Rauf

15/12/2025 10:49 AM

MELAKA, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- The media are a strategic development partner of the state government and not merely observers, said Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

He said a credible and integrity-driven media helps shape a knowledgeable, critical-thinking and united society, while accurate reporting and fair narratives strengthen public confidence in government policies and serve as a healthy check-and-balance mechanism.

“In line with the theme ‘Integrity in Information, Authority in Narrative’, the Melaka state government remains committed to practising governance with integrity, openness of information and fact-based communication.

“I hope media practitioners will continue to uphold integrity in information dissemination and wisdom in narrative-building, in line with the aspiration to develop Melaka into a progressive and prosperous state grounded in noble values,” he said at the Melaka Chief Minister’s Media Awards 2025 here last night.

He said the state government is ready to work closely with the media to disseminate authentic and responsible information, adding that trust and professionalism are key to a healthy and credible information ecosystem.

Meanwhile, Ab Rauf said the awards recognise media practitioners who excel in reporting while consistently upholding integrity and credibility, and expressed hope they would continue to spur responsible journalism.

“Congratulations to all the award recipients tonight. Your dedication and commitment serve as a benchmark for an ethical and credible media landscape,” he said.

At the event, over 100 media practitioners from various agencies and digital influencers were honoured across 14 categories.

The Melaka Bureau of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) won two awards through bureau chief Mohd Fakri Awang Lah, who received the Excellent TV News Report Award (Jebat), and photographer Muhammad Zulhilmi Daud, who won the Excellent Photojournalism Award (Jebat). Both received RM500 and a certificate.

Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj also received the Melaka Chief Minister’s Special Award, which carried RM1,000 in cash, a plaque and a certificate.
