KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- Prominent journalist Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai has been awarded the Outstanding Chinese-Media Most Influential Award from the Malaysian Chinese Assembly Hall (MCAH) here tonight.
The prestigious award was conferred by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof at the organisation’s second Chinese Elite Dragon Award ceremony.
The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman was among several personalities from various sectors who received awards.
Wong, a National Journalism Laureate, said he was honoured with the recognition.
“More than that, it is also an honour to the profession and my fellow journalists. I thank my media friends for their constant support,” said the 64-year-old veteran.
The ceremony, held in conjunction with the MCAH's 22nd anniversary, was attended by over 1,600 people, including Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, China Ambassador Ouyang Yujing and MCAH president Datuk Seri KK Chai.
Wong, the former advisor of Star Media Group Berhad, has over 40 years of experience in the media industry.
The Penang-born graduated from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), where he studied political science and history in 1984.
Wong has also served as an adjunct professor at the Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, UKM.
He has also undergone leadership and financial courses in various prestigious universities in the United States, including the University of Southern California and the University of Stanford.
In 2003, Wong won the prestigious Best Journalist Award for news features from the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) for his investigative article on Malaysian terrorists and their arms training in Afghanistan. In the same year, Asia Inc., a regional business magazine, named him in a list of Asia’s top 50 young movers and shakers.
He was also awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for Leadership in the Media Industry by the World Chinese Economic Forum in Chongqing, China, in 2014, and won the media leader title in 2015 from McMillan Woods, a renowned accounting firm
