11/12/2025 10:46 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) and Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on developing high-tech infrastructure, enhancing smart mobility solutions and advancing sustainability initiatives across their respective highways.

PLUS, in a statement, said that the MoU was formalised by its managing director Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar and KEC president Ham Jin-Gyu at a ceremony held in conjunction with the 20th ITS Asia Pacific Forum 2025 in Suwon, South Korea.

Nik Airina said the strategic partnership between PLUS and KEC reflected a shared commitment to redefining highway management and improving user experience through innovation.

“Over the next two years, we will jointly explore road paving technology, AI-based smart camera systems and toll solutions that are in line with PLUS’ vision of delivering a world-class highway experience for all.

“Through this joint venture, we aim to explore more advanced highway operations, moving towards a smarter and greener highway of the future,” she said in the same statement.

According to the statement, the collaboration would primarily focus on the development of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), sustainable infrastructure, and enhancing workforce capabilities across both organisations.

It said the strategic relationship was aimed at supporting Malaysia’s and South Korea’s efforts to enhance transport networks, foster green technology, and drive digital transformation.

The statement highlighted that by leveraging their combined resources and expertise, PLUS and KEC were set to achieve new benchmarks in operational efficiency, infrastructure resilience, and user satisfaction across their highway networks.

“In an era where the global transport industry is evolving rapidly, highway operators are facing growing challenges in providing resilient infrastructure and seamless mobility,” it said.

The statement said that through the coordination of strategic policy planning with on-the-ground implementation and technology exchange, both countries were better prepared to meet the mobility needs of the next generation.

Meanwhile, PLUS welcomed the cooperation formalised between the Works Ministry and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of South Korea last Tuesday in the federal capital.

It said that the MoU was expected to reinforce the strategic relationship between the two largest highway operators in Malaysia and South Korea, fostering innovation, knowledge sharing, and technological progress in their highway systems.
