KUALA NERUS, 11 Dis (Bernama) -- A welder was crushed to death this morning by an excavator bucket at the breakwater construction site in Pantai Kampung Tanjung, Batu Rakit, here.
Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the victim has been identified as 54-year-old Mohd Rosli Awang from Kampung Alur Limbat, Marang.
He said the incident occurred at about 9.48 am while the victim was welding the joint connecting the excavator bucket for construction work.
“However, the steel bucket suddenly tipped over and struck the victim’s back, prompting his colleagues to lift it using the excavator.
“The victim, who was unconscious, was rushed to the Batu Rakit Health Clinic and pronounced dead by medical personnel,” he said in a statement today.
Azli said the victim’s body had been sent to Sultan Zainal Abidin Hospital’s Forensic Unit for a post-mortem, adding that the investigation at the scene revealed no criminal elements.
