PUTRAJAYA, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin has been urged to immediately come forward and provide information on an alleged deviant cult movement from Korea that is believed to be active in the country.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said this was necessary to enable the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to initiate an investigation into the claims.
“I invite Mohd Asri to come forward and provide complete information to the authorities. He certainly has the details he referred to,” he said at a press conference after attending the Home Ministry’s monthly assembly here today.
Saifuddin Nasution said this when asked whether police had received any report regarding the alleged existence of a Korean cult movement, said to be involved in unusual and deviant claims and practices.
Recently, the Perlis Mufti, through a post on his Facebook page, claimed that several Muslim Members of Parliament and prominent individuals in Parliament were involved in actively assisting the cult movement. He also said that a briefing on the matter had been presented at the Perlis State Fatwa Committee meeting.
Saifuddin Nasution said the PDRM Special Branch has a dedicated unit to handle deviant teachings across various religions, including monitoring the modus operandi of the groups and individuals involved.
He added that investigations can only proceed once the police receive an official report, and any action taken will be guided by existing laws.
“So I urge Dr Maza (Mohd Asri) to come forward and lodge a report. Once the report is made, we will immediately begin the investigation,” he said.
