Zambry: MOHE To Cooperate Fully With Police Over Students’ Arrest In Immoral Activity Case

03/12/2025 05:47 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) will extend its full cooperation to the Royal Malaysia Police in the investigation, involving a group of university students allegedly engaged in immoral activities at premises in Penang, recently.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said that his ministry would not shield any individual found to have violated the law.

“For us, any matter that falls under the jurisdiction of the authorities will be left entirely to them. We will not protect any party under any circumstances.

“As long as an act is committed outside the boundaries of the law, the authorities have full authority to take the necessary action,” he told reporters, when asked to comment on the issue at the Putrajaya Festival of Ideas (FOI) 2025, here, today.

Zambry said MOHE consistently prioritises student discipline, safety and integrity, but stressed that any criminal offence or misconduct occurring outside campus premises remains under the purview of law enforcement agencies.

He also stressed that MOHE will continue to monitor developments closely, and extend its cooperation whenever required to ensure a smooth and transparent investigation process.

Police previously reported the arrest of 13 men, including two foreign nationals, on suspicion of involvement in unnatural sexual activities.

Of the 13 individuals detained, 11 were customers of the premises - nine Malaysians and two foreigners, aged between 19 and 66 - while the remaining two were the premises’ employee and its owner, aged 57 and 59 respectively.

The case is being investigated under Section 377B of the Penal Code for suspected sexual intercourse against the order of nature, as well as Section 292 for the possession of obscene material found on a mobile phone.

All individuals arrested have been remanded until Dec 5, to facilitate further investigations.
