Raja Of Perlis Outlines Five Core Mandates To Guide UniSIRAJ’s future

KANGAR, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail has outlined five core mandates to guide the entire community of Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (UniSIRAJ) as it advances as an institution rooted in truth, knowledge and sincerity, and remains under the protection and blessings of Allah SWT.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said the first mandate is to place the appreciation of sunnah at the heart of all university endeavours; the second, to nurture knowledgeable, ethical and well-mannered individuals; the third, to elevate UniSIRAJ as a leading Islamic reference centre across multiple disciplines.

The fourth mandate focuses on strengthening research and innovation based on Islamic values, while the fifth calls for enhancing UniSIRAJ’s role in the development of civilisation and humanity.

“These five mandates must serve as the compass for the university’s journey. When the foundations of sunnah, knowledge and trust are united, we will see the rise of a generation that excels not only in scholarship but also in noble character.

“With Allah’s permission and care, UniSIRAJ will continue to flourish as a beacon of knowledge, a centre of wisdom and a light of civilisation for Perlis, ‘Where Lovers of the Sunnah Are Born’,” he said.

The Raja of Perlis delivered the mandates when proclaiming UniSIRAJ as the state’s new beacon of knowledge at Dewan 2020 here last night. Also present was the Raja Perempuan Perlis, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Almarhum Tengku Abdul Rashid.

The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, and Raja Puan Muda Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, also graced the ceremony.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said that amid global ideological conflict and growing spiritual emptiness, UniSIRAJ must embody the true meaning of rahmatan lil-‘alamin by serving as a bridge between the Islamic world and the international communities, spreading messages of compassion, peace and humanitarian responsibility through knowledge and practice.

UniSIRAJ was formerly known as Kolej Universiti Islam Perlis (KUIPs) before being upgraded to university status. On Nov 23 last year, Bernama reported that Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra, then KUIPs Chancellor, announced that the Higher Education Department, via a letter on Nov 15, 2024, has approved KUIPs’ elevation to a university.

At the ceremony, Prof Dr Muhamad Rozaimi Ramle, previously KUIPs rector, was proclaimed the first vice-chancellor of UniSIRAJ.
