KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- As global geopolitical tensions continue to rise, leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) are convening in South Korea for the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, a pivotal gathering as the region faces deepening global economic uncertainty.
According to China Global Television Network (CGTN) in a statement, ahead of the summit, China Media Group (CMG), in collaboration with Yonsei University and South Korea’s YTN, hosted a panel discussion in Beijing on Oct 25 titled "Dialogue on Global Governance and Asia-Pacific Shared Prosperity".
The discussion brought together government officials, academics and business representatives to exchange views on strengthening cooperation and ensuring inclusive growth across the Asia-Pacific region.
China Council for the Promotion of International Trade chairman, Ren Hongbin said nations’ interests are increasingly interconnected, underscoring the need for shared governance based on cooperation and mutual benefit.
He highlighted China’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI) as part of Beijing’s contribution to a fairer and more balanced international system.
Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz emphasised that trust, inclusiveness and adherence to global rules are essential foundations for sustainable growth.
Chile’s Chamber of Deputies member, Ruben Oyarzo reiterated Chile’s commitment to Asia-Pacific development and mutual trust, while Yonsei University president, Yoon Dong-sup said dialogue and collective action are crucial in addressing global issues such as climate change, population ageing and innovation.
Participants noted that as multilateralism faces unprecedented challenges, China’s GGI and related initiatives provide constructive frameworks for international engagement. They also commended China’s economic resilience as a stabilising force in the global economy.
David Perez Des Rosiers of the Canada China Business Council described APEC as a vital platform for regional collaboration, while Gaston Chee of the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce in China called for greater transparency to counter trade barriers.
Amid global fragmentation, CGTN highlighted China's message: dialogue, cooperation, and shared prosperity offer a path toward renewal.
