SEPANG, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- Chinese Premier Li Qiang has arrived in Malaysia to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, which are taking place in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from Oct 26 to Oct 28.
The special aircraft carrying Li and his delegation landed at the Bunga Raya Complex of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport here at 4.17 pm, and they were welcomed by Minister of Transport Anthony Loke.
Li inspected a guard of honour comprising 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment.
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s official website, Li will take part in the 28th ASEAN Plus Three Summit, the 20th East Asia Summit and the fifth Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Leaders’ Meeting.
Li is undertaking his second visit to Malaysia this year at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Chinese Premier was previously in Kuala Lumpur for the ASEAN-China-GCC Summit from May 26 to 28, also at the invitation of Anwar in his capacity as the ASEAN Chair for 2025.
He made a two-day visit to Singapore on Oct 25 and 26 before coming to Malaysia.
Earlier, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung arrived at 2.45 pm and was welcomed by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
Lee’s two-day visit to Kuala Lumpur marks his first trip to Southeast Asia since taking office in June.
He is expected to attend the ASEAN Summit, where he plans to discuss ways to advance South Korea’s Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the 10-member bloc, and to participate in the ASEAN Plus Three Summit involving South Korea, Japan and China.
Malaysia, as ASEAN Chair 2025, is currently hosting over 30 world leaders, including those from the ASEAN region, the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, to deepen engagement and cooperation while addressing regional and global issues of mutual concern.
Besides Li and Lee, other leaders who also arrived this evening were New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Minister of State for Trade and Investment Hon Nicola Grigg, who landed at 5.30 pm.
The New Zealand ministers were welcomed by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.
Luxon then inspected a guard of honour comprising 26 officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment.
Meanwhile, Japan Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu and his delegation arrived at 6.20pm.
