KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysia, as the Chair of the 47th ASEAN Summit next week, must ensure that every discussion held yields tangible impact, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said Malaysia also needed to strengthen regional cohesion and bring benefits to all member states as well as dialogue partners involved in the ASEAN Summit, which was scheduled to take place from Oct 26 to 28 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
“I have also instructed the entire government machinery and relevant agencies to carry out the best preparations with utmost precision and commitment.
“My appreciation goes to all personnel who have worked tirelessly to ensure that all preparations proceed smoothly,” he said in a post on his social media account.
He also shared several photos of his visit earlier today to inspect the preparations for the summit at KLCC, accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin.
Meanwhile, Shamsul Azri said the visit aimed to ensure that every aspect of the organisation was at its best, covering venue preparations, logistics, security control, programme flow, and overall coordination.
“Judging by the commitment and dedication of the entire organising team, I can say that Malaysia is now ready to welcome the arrival of more than 30,000 delegates beginning Oct 25,” he said on Facebook.
The 47th ASEAN Summit, from Oct 26 to 28, marks the culmination of Malaysia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN 2025, themed “Inclusion and Sustainability”.
The 47th ASEAN Summit will bring together all ASEAN member state leaders, dialogue partners, and guests, with Anwar earlier stating that it was expected to be among the largest in the history of the regional bloc’s summits.
