MAWILLA 2 Jetty Project To Be Completed By May 2026 - Mohamed Khaled

06/10/2025 04:40 PM

SANDAKAN, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- The construction of the Naval Region 2 Headquarters (MAWILLA 2) jetty, which began in 2022 at a cost of RM122.9 million, is expected to be completed by May next year, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

He said the new 300-metre jetty would support the headquarters in strengthening its preparedness.

Mohamed Khaled said the MAWILLA 2 jetty project was important, as the headquarters was responsible for overseeing the country’s naval defence in the area and for monitoring waters, including the South China Sea, the Sulawesi Sea, and the Sulu Sea.

“The jetty is planned to accommodate the increase or deployment of ships to the headquarters. From a planning perspective, 20 naval ships are needed here to ensure effective operations in safeguarding the South China Sea, the Sulu Sea, and the Sulawesi Sea,” he said today.

He told reporters this after inspecting the MAWILLA 2 jetty construction project here, which has reached 75 per cent completion.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Khaled said the Malaysian Armed Forces were prepared for any eventuality during the 17th Sabah State Election.

“But for now, the situation does not require the military to be directly involved. We only advise that the democratic process must be carried out responsibly. Do not create situations that could ultimately affect national security,” he said.

Mohamed Khaled, who is on a two-day official working visit here beginning yesterday, also inspected several projects under the MADANI Economy Programme, including a kelulut (stingless bee) honey production site and a smart zero-carbon hydroponic project.
