KUCHING, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- A total of 116 entries have been received for the Sarawak Digital Economy Awards 2025 (DEA2025), organised by the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), is one of the major attractions at the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2025 (IDECS25).

Sarawak Utilities and Telecommunications Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said the award was in recognition of the achievements of Sarawakians in seven digital excellence categories, with each winner taking home RM10,000 in cash, a trophy and certificate.

“The winner will participate in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona, Spain from March 2 to 5, 2026 and will have their expenses fully sponsored, including return tickets, accommodation and full access to the MWC 2026 exhibition,” he said at the official IDECS25 media conference here today.

A total of 70 entries passed the first evaluation in seven categories, Digital Technology Transformation, Research and Development and Commercialisation, Entrepreneurship and Business Startups, Digital Government, Digital Creative Content, Environmental Sustainability and Digital Leadership.

Julaihi also shared that IDECS25, with the theme ‘AI & Green Evolution: Community Growth, Challenges and Resilience’, serves as a platform to discuss the benefits and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) on a global scale, and ensures that Sarawak is not left behind in the latest technological developments.

Taking place from Oct 22 to 23 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), IDECS25 is expecting over 10,000 visitors and participants, with international delegations from the United States, Japan, the Philippines, Australia, Singapore and China.

“We are aiming for 20 per cent to be foreign participants and the key speakers for this edition include AI book author James Barrat, world renowned AI expert Dr Ayesha Khanna and human transformation expert Dr Justin Cohen,” he added.

The conference is jointly organised by the Sarawak Digital Economic Corporation (SDEC), SMA, and Sarawak Information Systems (SAINS) with Bioekonomi Malaysia Sdn Bhd as a strategic partner.

DEA, which was introduced for the first time in 2018, is part of the Sarawak Digital Strategy that aims to unite digital technology with all economic sectors.

It also emphasises digital inclusion, talent and infrastructure development, while also recognising contributions from the public and private sectors, industry, government-linked companies, universities, non-governmental organisations and individuals.
