PUTRAJAYA, July 24 (Bernama) -- The assistance announced by the government yesterday should be reflected in more dedicated and diligent service by civil servants, to ensure better delivery to the people, said Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.
He said the initiatives announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim demonstrate the government’s concern for the wellbeing of the people and civil servants, particularly in the current challenging economic climate.
He described the measures, such as cash aid and extra public holiday in conjunction with Malaysia Day, as a clear manifestation of the principle of ‘rukun ihsan’ (compassionate) in government policy.
“In fact, what was announced by the Prime Minister yesterday is something that has been eagerly awaited by everyone, whether civil servants or the public.
“On behalf of all civil servants in Malaysia, I would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the Prime Minister for his concern over the needs of the people during these trying economic times,” he told Bernama and RTM here today.
Commenting further, Wan Ahmad Dahlan said the assistance would help ease the daily financial burden on the people and serve as motivation for civil servants to improve the quality of their services.
On the extra public holiday on Sept 15, he said the initiative provides civil servants with the opportunity to spend quality time with their families and strengthen the spirit of unity.
“This is something new, as Malaysia Day has only been celebrated on Sept 16. However, in light of the Prime Minister’s concern for work-life balance, the government has granted an additional day for us to celebrate the formation of Malaysia,” he said.
He also urged all civil servants to continue supporting government policies and always comply with the directives of the leadership.
“As civil servants, we must always uphold and implement the policies set by the government. This is to ensure that the civil service remains relevant and effective in serving the people,” he said.
