SHAH ALAM, July 16 (Bernama) -- Former Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) chief executive officer, Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini, has been appointed the new secretary of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) effective today.
In a statement, MAIS announced that Mohd Sabirin, 55, succeeds Dr Ahmad Shahir Makhtar, whose term concluded yesterday.
Mohd Sabirin holds a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Before joining LZS and subsequently MAIS, he held various positions in the corporate sector.
At LZS, he served in several key capacities, including Head of the Collection Division and Head of Asnaf Distribution Operations, before assuming the role of CEO.
He is also a certified Syariah Registered Financial Planner (RFP Syariah) under the Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC), a member of the Malaysian Association of Tax Accountants (MATA), and holds a teaching certification under MAIS for the state of Selangor.
MAIS expressed confidence that Mohd Sabirin’s appointment will further strengthen the council’s mission to enhance Islamic governance and administration in Selangor.
The council also extended its appreciation to Ahmad Shahir for his dedication and service as secretary from July 16, 2019, until the end of his tenure.
During his time at the helm, Ahmad Shahir led MAIS with distinction, overseeing the implementation of the MAIS Strategic Plan 2020-2024, which encompassed all Islamic affairs departments, agencies, and subsidiaries under its administration.
He also championed the council’s digital transformation initiatives, including the development of key systems such as e-Tauliah, Wasiat & Hibah (e-SISWA), and e-Faraid.
“His contributions elevated MAIS’ profile internationally, notably earning the council a gold award at the International Convention on Quality Control Circle (ICQCC) in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in addition to numerous other recognitions received by the council and its subsidiaries,” the statement added.
