KOTA BHARU, July 15 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM)'s six-month 'Biggest Losses’ Body Mass Index (BMI) reduction programme has helped 90 officers, rank and file, and civil staff from 354 participants move out of the obesity category.
Kelantan deputy police chief DCP Mohd Ali Thamby said the remaining 264 participants are still undergoing the programme and are being closely monitored to strengthen the force's readiness through a holistic health approach.
"The main goal of this programme is to help PDRM personnel achieve an ideal BMI, improve stamina and physical endurance, and cultivate a healthy work culture.
"The ideal BMI is not just a health indicator, it reflects physical readiness, professional image, and the ability of personnel to perform demanding duties more effectively," he told reporters after closing the programme at the Kelantan Police Headquarters here today.
The programme started last November and was initiated by the Training Branch of the Kelantan Contingent Management Department, with participation from 10 districts and 10 departments under the state PDRM.
Meanwhile, Constable Muhammad Aiman Abdullah, 32, from the Gua Musang District Police Headquarters transport unit, emerged as the winner after reducing his weight by 27.8 kilogrammes (kg), from 105.8 kg to 78 kg over six months.
"Previously, I would tire and feel sleepy easily, but now that I'm lighter, I feel more energetic and motivated to work. I avoided sugar, skipped rice at night, chose egg whites and grilled food without oil, and drank a lot of water. It was tough at first... the first one or two weeks, my hands and feet were shaking, but eventually, it became part of my routine," he said.
