KANGAR, July 14 (Bernama) -- Syarikat Air Perlis Sdn Bhd (SAP) has submitted a proposal for a review of water tariff rates to the National Water Services Commission (SPAN).
State Infrastructure, Transport and Border Relations Committee chairman Izizam Ibrahim said a water tariff review was necessary to support increased maintenance activities for ageing assets and to repair the state’s deteriorating pipe infrastructure and water distribution system, which currently suffers from high leakage and water loss rates.
He said that the adjustment was also important to cover the costs of upgrading water treatment plants, as well as to settle outstanding loans and debts from previous projects.
"This tariff adjustment is expected to ensure the long-term sustainability of the water supply, maintain an efficient, safe and continuous system and strengthen the overall resilience of the water supply network across the state," he said in a statement today.
Last Wednesday, it was reported that SPAN was still reviewing the application for water tariff adjustments from water service operators in 10 states under its supervision, including Perlis.
