KUALA NERUS, July 13 (Bernama) -- The problem of coastal erosion caused by strong waves during the annual monsoon season, especially in Batu Rakit here, is expected to be resolved with the completion of the road repair and coastal reinforcement work along the T145 Jalan Mengabang Telipot-Batu Rakit Route in early October.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that since work began last April, the progress of the 280-metre project has so far reached 72.24 per cent, which is about 13 days ahead of the original schedule.
“The project, with an allocation of RM4.95 million, has shown commendable progress in both implementation and financial management.
“This project is funded by MARRIS (Malaysian Road Records Information System) with the allocation channelled to the state government. The Public Works Department (JKR) is providing technical assistance to ensure the project is carried out in the best possible manner,” he told reporters after inspecting the repair works on the collapsed road and shoreline in Kampung Tanjung Batu Rakit, here today.
Meanwhile, Nanta said that the main scope of the work involved clearing rubble, geotechnical works, construction of retaining walls, installation of geotextile systems, sand filling works and stabilisation of the soil structure.
All these works were carried out meticulously to ensure the long-term durability and safety of the infrastructure, he said.
"The Ministry of Works, through JKR, would like to assure that this state project will continue to be closely monitored so that it can be completed according to schedule, quality specifications and cost.
“Residents in the area and road users are advised to continue to cooperate and comply with all safety instructions throughout the implementation period of the work," he said.
