KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- Agrobank, in collaboration with Food4U, today launched its latest corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, “Agrobank X Food4U”, by distributing food packs to underprivileged communities, particularly the homeless, around the capital.
Agrobank Group president and chief executive officer Datuk Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin said the programme aimed to assist around 4,000 individuals through the distribution of 400 food packs over 10 selected weeks, from this month until the end of the year, at the Chow Kit Community Learning Centre.
He said the food was prepared voluntarily by around 20 Agrobank staff as part of efforts to foster volunteerism and reach out to the community.
“This programme will be conducted on Thursdays or Fridays, as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that basic needs such as food are provided to those in need.
“We realise that many still struggle to obtain food, so this is our way of helping them,” he told reporters after the launch of Agrobank X Food4U at the Chow Kit Community Learning Centre here today.
Also present was Datin Seri Normah Alwi, wife of Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.
At the event, Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah, who also helped distribute food packs to the homeless, said the programme would be continued if it received a positive response.
“For now, we are focusing on the Klang Valley, where there is a large population of homeless and urban poor who need assistance.
“However, in the future, we plan to expand this programme nationwide with the involvement of Agrobank staff at other branches,” he said.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Agrobank said it remained committed to implementing various CSR initiatives to create a positive impact on society.
Several CSR programmes have been organised this year, including the “Back To School” contribution programme, angpow distribution in conjunction with Chinese New Year, and the release of juvenile fish under the Aquaculture Aspire initiative.
