Health-conscious Visitors Flock To MOH Screenings At Terengganu PMR

11/07/2025 05:25 PM

KUALA TERENGGANU, July 11 (Bernama) -- Although the Terengganu MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 at Pasar Payang, here, only opens at 9 am, visitors have been lining up since early morning for free health screenings at the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) booth.

A check by Bernama found visitors of all ages patiently queuing for their turn to undergo health screenings and receive advice from MOH personnel on duty.

A visitor, Zainal Khamis, 63, said that he did not miss the opportunity for a health check-up, after learning about the programme through a local residents’ WhatsApp group.

“I am very conscious about my health, so when I found out there was a free check-up, I came straight away. Alhamdulillah, all my readings are still under control,” said the retiree from Kuala Terengganu, when met by Bernama, today.

Meanwhile, a bank officer, Irfaniza Badrul, 35, said that she stopped by the health screening booth while visiting the PMR site, to check her cholesterol level and seek advice, as she has been dealing with high cholesterol.

“Thankfully, my health readings are satisfactory, and the health officer advised me to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day to maintain good health,” she said.

Meanwhile, an assistant medical officer at the Kuala Terengganu Health Office, Royharcinta Harman Shah, said that initiatives like this are crucial, especially in Terengganu, given the population’s tendency to enjoy sweet foods.

This, in turn, puts the community at risk of developing non-communicable diseases if not properly controlled.

“We are taking this initiative to raise public awareness about their health status. For example, we can detect early risk factors, and intervene by providing referral letters for follow-up appointments at health facilities, if necessary,” he added.

He said that various services were offered throughout the three-day programme, including blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) checks, in addition to health screenings under the PeKa B40 programme, and free influenza vaccine immunisation for individuals aged 60 and above.

The three-day Terengganu PMR 2025, which will run until tomorrow (July 12), is targeting a total attendance of 25,000 visitors, in line with the various activities and services offered to the people.

Themed ‘Pembangunan MADANI, Rakyat Sejahtera,’ the programme is organised by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), through the Performance Acceleration and Coordination Unit (PACU), in strategic collaboration with the Works Ministry and the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM).
