KAJANG, July 11 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar today presented an immediate aid contribution of RM100,000 to Sekolah Menengah Agama Persekutuan (SMAP) Kajang, following a fire that destroyed one of the school’s offices yesterday morning.
Of the total amount, RM50,000 was allocated by the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YAPEIM), while the remaining RM50,000 came from Yayasan Taqwa of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council.
Mohd Na’im said the contribution is intended to support repair works and other urgent needs to ensure that teaching and learning activities at the school can continue without disruption.
“The Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) and the MADANI Government, particularly through religious agencies, remain committed to safeguarding and strengthening Islamic educational institutions in the country,” he told reporters after visiting the fire site at the school earlier today.
During the visit, Mohd Na’im also met with school staff to assess the situation and ensure that important documents could be salvaged.
“There are challenges, but InsyaAllah, there is wisdom behind this test. Perhaps this trial will bring future good. I believe that through the patience shown by the school community, from the principal and teachers to the students, Allah SWT will grant them something better in return,” he said.
Earlier reports stated that the fire destroyed an office room in one of the school buildings in the early hours of Thursday.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received an emergency call at 1.18 am and 16 firefighters with five engines were dispatched to the scene.
The fire was brought under control by 1.58 am and no casualties were reported. The cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation.
