PUTRAJAYA, July 2 (Bernama) -- Malaysia marks its first international mission as the president of the UN-Habitat Assembly (UNHA) by participating in the 14th Mayors Forum of the World Cities Summit (WCS) 2025, taking place in Vienna, Austria from today until July 4.

Led by Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming in his capacity as the UNHA president, the delegation also includes Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif, as well as technical advisor on Multilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Dr Neil Khor Jin Keong.

In a statement today, Nga said Malaysia’s active participation on the global stage will not only elevate the country’s profile as a leader in sustainable urban development, but also foster valuable knowledge exchange, policy learning and adoption of best practices.

“As president of the UNHA, I am honoured to take part in this forum among mayors who are leading urban innovation on the ground. This is a vital opportunity to align global commitments with local action.

“I hope that the insights and global partnerships formed in Vienna will also inform and benefit Malaysia’s urban planning and housing strategies,” he said.

Throughout the summit, Nga is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with key international partners, including United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) director-general Gerd Müller, Vienna Mayor and Governor Michael Ludwig and Metropolis secretary-general Jordi Vaquer.

The discussions will explore plan-led urban development, climate resilience, social inclusion, and the advancement of SDG11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) at metropolitan and national levels.

Nga is also scheduled to deliver a special address during Mayors Forum Session 1, set for tomorrow.
