RM200,000 Approved For Flood Mitigation In Kg Melayu Bukit Batu - Teo

KULAI, July 1 (Bernama) -- A total of RM200,000 has been approved for a flood mitigation project in the high-risk area of Kampung Melayu Bukit Batu under the Kulai parliamentary’s ‘mesra rakyat’ (people-friendly) allocation.

Kulai Member of Parliament Teo Nie Ching said the project was initiated following four flood incidents earlier this year, which caused villagers to suffer property loss, home damage, and emotional distress.

She said the project aims to reduce flood risk and improve the area’s drainage system to help prevent future occurrences.

“Work is actively underway by the appointed contractor. I would like to thank the technical agencies and local communities for their continued cooperation. I remain committed to safeguarding the well-being of the people of Kulai,” she said in a Facebook post today.

Kampung Melayu Bukit Batu is one of the high-risk flood areas in the Kulai district, as the existing drainage system can no longer cope with the heavy flow of rainwater.

Since the beginning of this year, the village has experienced four flood incidents, with more than 50 houses inundated up to knee level, causing property damage and emotional distress among residents.

Following the incident, residents, together with the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK), submitted a complaint to the local authorities and Kulai Member of Parliament on April 14, urging a long-term solution to the recurring floods.
