TAIPING, June 28 (Bernama) -- Museums serve as effective platforms for informal learning, particularly for schoolchildren, said Deputy Minister of National Unity Senator K. Saraswathy.
She said museums enabled schoolchildren to learn in a relaxed setting while allowing visitors to understand history through narratives, visuals and experiential elements rather than just facts.
Saraswathy said this approach allowed knowledge to be delivered in a more impactful and enjoyable way.
“Beyond that, museums should be regarded as strategic partners in society. A modern museum must evolve in tandem with the community’s progress.
“I hope this institution will serve as a platform for collaboration with various parties, including educational institutions, non-governmental organisations, arts and culture activists, as well as the general public,” she said when officiating the Fiesta Uniti @ Muzium Perak 2025: Penyatuan Dalam Kepelbagaian programme here today.
Saraswathy said that through such collaborations, various creative programmes could be organised to expand outreach and ensure that museums remained relevant and influential in the daily lives of the community.
Meanwhile, she said the organisation of Fiesta Uniti @ Perak Museum 2025 proved that museums were not merely government agencies preserving historic artefacts but also platforms for the convergence of knowledge, art, culture and unity.
“A harmonious environment allows us to instil positive values such as mutual respect, understanding and trust between races.
“This strong foundation is the pillar of national stability, which directly drives the development and growth of the country’s economy,” she said.
Saraswathy also said that such a programme demonstrated how museum institutions could play a proactive and meaningful role in supporting the Unity Policy.
The two-day event, which begins today, features various interesting activities, including an exhibition of traditional clothing, musical instruments and accessories from Malaysia’s diverse communities, a patriotic song competition, batik painting demonstrations, rattan weaving and traditional games.
