MDS Launches Durian Selama 2025 Package As New Tourism Product

26/06/2025 09:39 PM

LARUT, June 26 (Bernama) -- The Selama District Council (MDS) has launched the Perak 2025 Durian Selama Package, a new tourism initiative designed to draw more visitors to the district.

Tourism Malaysia's Package Development Division director, Roslan Abdullah, said the pilot project, in collaboration with MDS and its Strategic Tourism Partners (RSP-MDS), offers six Durian Selama packages, starting from as low as RM90 per person.

"These six packages each have a unique identity, offering a distinct experience through the combination of agro and eco-tourism products with the district's local aesthetic coffee culture.

"We strongly welcome the continued development of local packages to add value for tourists visiting Perak, especially in the Selama district," he said at the launch of the Durian Selama 2025 Package held at Kopigun, Gunung Ijok, here today.

Also present were MDS president Nor Akmal Yang Ghazali, Selama Assistant District Officer Mustofa Aliman, and Perak Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) director Muhammad Aminuddin Abd Majid.

Roslan said that Selama's durians are unique in terms of quality, shape, and taste. They are comparable to the famous Batu Kurau durians because both are grown in similar environments around the Bintang Hijau mountain range. These areas are located next to each other within the Larut parliamentary constituency.

"Among the durians featured in the package are durian kampung and premium varieties such as IOI, Musang King, Red Prawn (Udang Merah), and Black Thorn (Duri Hitam)," he said.

He urged other agencies under Tourism Malaysia to adopt the initiative driven by RSP-MDS to support the success of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

Nor Akmal added that the tourism sector has generated RM1.6 million in revenue over the past three years through strategic collaborations with 65 registered operators under MDS.

He said several local attractions continue to draw visitors, including 7 Lata Selama (waterfalls), which was officially recognised as Perak's 12th tourism icon in 2021.

"…MDS considers tourism a core responsibility, in other words, a key sector in generating income for us.

"This (product) is unique and valuable, as attractions such as 7 Lata Selama, the Giant Freshwater Prawn Pool, extreme outdoor activities, and others are not available elsewhere and are guaranteed to offer maximum satisfaction to visitors," he said.
