KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) made a strong impression at the 2025 Malaysian Journalists Night and the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI)-Petronas Journalism Awards held here tonight, securing eight prestigious awards.
Bernama Radio delivered a standout performance, dominating all four radio categories — Best Radio Report, Best Radio Talk Show, Best Radio Documentary and Best Radio Live Broadcast.
Bernama Radio journalist Nurliyana Farhah Ruslan beat four other contenders to emerge as the Gold winner in the Best Radio Report category, earning a cash prize of RM10,000, a trophy and a certificate.
Continuing its winning streak, Bernama Radio also dominated the Best Radio Talk Show category, with journalists Edlynna Hanie Abu Hamid, Naziana Md Nasir and Nur Syazwani Bakhtiar Azam taking home the gold for “Mahalnya Sebuah Pengorbanan”.
Meanwhile, Wan Shairil Azmir Wan Sharifuddin, Raifanabillah Zulkifli and Khairul Rizuan Azizan were named Silver winners, while Siti Hasmarr Mohd Hashim, Natasha Aimee Hashim and Muhammad Arif Che Soh took home the Bronze.
In the Best Radio Live Broadcast category, Ahmad Irfan Che Mohd Ruzaidi of Bernama Radio won the Silver award, while Wan Nadia Khairani Wan Chik secured the Bronze.
Bernama also received the Bronze award in the Best Radio Documentary category through Ahmad Irfan Che Mohd Ruzaidi.
Bernama photographer Mohd Safwan Mansor emerged as the Gold winner in the Best Photo Essay category with his work titled “Premis Legasi 100 Tahun Musnah Di Jilat Api”.
In the Best Photo Journalism category, Bernama’s Mohd Syafiq @ Ridzuan Ambak took home the Silver award with his entry titled “Katil Terapung Banjir”.
Bernama TV journalists Shahrul Aini Saharan and Wan Syahrina Wan Ab Rahman clinched the Silver award in the Best Video Talk Show category for their report “Jenayah Sadis: Pembunuh Antara Kita?”.
The Silver medal in the Best Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Journalism category went to Sakina Binti Haji Mohamed, Shaza Binti Mhd Husam Eddin Al Muzayen, Abdul Rahman Fahmi Abdul Aziz and Ummul Syuhaida Binti Othman for their reports titled “Panel Pile-Up: Solar Waste’s Silent Surge”, “From Sun to Scrap: The Impact of Solar Waste” and “When Solar Panels Retire: Navigating the Waste Wave”.
Commenting on Bernama’s wins, deputy editor-in-chief of News Services Nasriah Darus described it as the result of the staff’s tireless efforts, unwavering commitment and strong team spirit.
“This success gives new motivation to Bernama’s staff and journalists to continue producing better reports. We also have many talented and skilled young journalists, and this achievement will serve as an encouragement and impetus for them to continue achieving success,” she said.
Sharing the joyous moment, Bernama photographer Mohd Safwan Mansor described his win as totally unexpected.
“I was surprised, as the other shortlisted photos were equally compelling. But I am truly grateful for this opportunity.
“Thank you to my family, as well as Bernama's editors and management, who always provided the support and gave me the opportunity to cover meaningful events,” he said.
Bernama Radio chief Azlan Idris described the awards won by the station as a meaningful recognition of the quality of its broadcast content.
“Alhamdulillah, tonight’s victory gives significant meaning to the content we produce, in line with our continuous efforts to maintain broadcast quality consistently.
“Whether it’s those who received awards tonight or other staff members, everyone plays a vital role in ensuring our content remains relevant and of high quality,” he said.
Azlan said the recognition not only serves as a morale boost for the Bernama Radio team but also sets a new benchmark for them to strive further in the future.
