KESUMA Reappoints Ong As Industrial Court Chairman For Fifth Term

PUTRAJAYA, May 26 (Bernama) — The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) today announced the reappointment of Ong Wai Leong as Chairman of the Industrial Court (MPM) for a fifth term, effective from June 1 until May 31, 2029.

In a statement, KESUMA said Ong’s reappointment is a recognition of his commitment, professionalism and high integrity in discharging his duties as MPM Chairman since 2016.

“Throughout his service, Ong has presided over 1,161 cases and successfully resolved 1,060 cases.

“Several of his accomplishments will also be published in the compilation book of MPM Awards as a key reference in the field of labour law,” the ministry said.

The statement added that the appointment will continue to contribute to the increased efficiency of the MPM in achieving key performance indicators (KPIs) set under the MADANI Malaysia Strategic Framework, especially in terms of expediting adjudication processes and reducing backlog cases.

KESUMA stated that among the KPIs set by Human Resources Minister Steven Sim under the MADANI Malaysia Strategic Framework (KSMM) involving MPM are the reforms of the MPM and Labour Court, which include shortening the adjudication process, reducing case backlogs, and improving facilities and amenities at both courts.

Established under the Industrial Relations Act 1967 (Act 177), the MPM is a tribunal functioning as the sole body to decide on cases involving dismissals, collective agreements, and industrial disputes between employers, employees, and relevant trade unions.
