Family Matters In Malaysian Heist Movie 'the Experts'

KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- The family theme portrayed by Malaysian heist film ‘The Experts’, set to hit cinemas nationwide on May 23, sets it apart from other movies of the same genre. 

Its producer and scriptwriter Joel Soh said the film’s dramatic elements make the story more relatable to the audience, adding focus is also given to action sequences and stunts that are synonymous with the heist genre.

“I strongly believe if a film lacks dramatic scenes that we can relate to, it will feel 'empty'. Therefore, as in this film and our previous films, we always try to find a theme to make the film seem complete.

“The scenes and characters portrayed in this film are beyond realistic, so we need to ground them. We want to incorporate the usual family conflicts that can divide a family and highlight values such as forgiveness and understanding,” he said at a press conference held in conjunction with the gala premiere of ‘The Experts’ last night.

Soh, who was also the producer and scriptwriter of the blockbuster movie ‘Police Evo’, also promised action scenes taken “from a different perspective” and different from those featured in their previous movies. 

Using the tagline ‘Satu Rompakan Berkeluarga Terbesar’ (The Biggest Family Heist), ‘The Experts’ also incorporates an emotional twist and comedic elements.

It boasts a star-studded cast comprising Datuk Aaron Aziz as Farid, Syafiq Kyle (Keyrol, an intelligence expert), Mimi Lana (Emma, manipulation expert), Remy Ishak (Amer, master of disguises) and Ray Dapdap (Lan, hacking expert). Also in the cast are Maya Karin, Tony Eusoff, Wan Hanafi Su, Jay Iswazir, Douglas Lim and Michael Ang.

The film is produced by Astro Shaw in association with ZAK Capital and TGV Pictures. It will be screened in 172 cinemas in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.

The 121-minute film revolves around a family of five siblings who had long abandoned their life of crime but are forced to reunite due to a threat and command from a highly dangerous gangster to execute one last high-risk heist.

The siblings, meanwhile, are still haunted by old grudges arising from a family tragedy and their past misdeeds. How will they face their enemies and protect their family? Will this heist be the final mission that brings the five siblings together?
