KG BELUKUT IN LABUAN NOW A MADANI FOSTER VILLAGE

04/05/2024 07:10 PM

LABUAN, May 4 (Bernama) -- Kampung Belukut, a village categorised as lacking in infrastructure, was adopted as a MADANI Foster Village under the Federal Territories Department (JWP) to elevate the well-being of the people.

JWP director-general Datuk Noridah Abdul Rahim said Kampung Belukut was selected based on the criteria set by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), which rates its existing basic infrastructure at only 50 per cent and in dire need of maintenance and upgrading to allow a decent living for the residents.

She said with a population of 600 people living in an area of 38,446 hectares, Kampung Belukut has excellent potential for transformation and progress.

She said the MOF had approved RM2.5 million to implement projects such as repairing village roads, installing street lights, and upgrading the community hall through a 'gotong-royong' effort.

She said this after making a working visit to the village today.

Noridah said this village adoption programme is a holistic initiative introduced by the prime minister through the 2024 Budget to give equal access to basic facilities such as water supply, electricity, roads, street lights, community facilities, and internet access through a 'Whole of Government' approach.

"The implementation of the MADANI Village Adoption Programme in Kampung Belukut has a significant impact on the morale of the local populace.

"This includes improving the socio-economic well-being of the community, awareness and involvement in government initiatives, as well as evoking a sense of belonging among the villagers," she said.

Noridah said the programme's implementation would be monitored from progress reports submitted to the Prime Minister's Department's Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) through the MADANI Foster Village Dashboard (D-KAT Madani).

"Hopefully, the implementation of the MADANI Foster Village Programme will bring great benefits to the Kampung Belukut community and become a model for holistic and viable development in the Federal Territory of Labuan," she added.

Earlier, she handed over one-off donations to B40 heads of households in the village.

Several government agencies, such as the Labuan Health Department, the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso), and the Labuan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), are also involved in bringing health screening services, job matching, briefings on social protection, and fire safety demonstrations.
