MELAKA, March 29 (Bernama) -- UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA) continues its tradition of bringing cheer to 50 asnaf children of various backgrounds from Rumah Kasih Tun Abdul Aziz (RKTAA) Melaka at Morten Walk Hall, Kampung Morten here today.
UDA president cum chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Salem Kailany said the children received zakat wakalah donations of RM15,000 channelled through UDA Cares corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, with each child receiving duit raya of RM300.
“The zakat presentation in conjunction with Ramadan month is an annual affair for UDA aimed to foster closer ties with communities, especially in our business region.
"This initiative reflects UDA’s commitment towards social responsibility and fosters closer ties with local communities, which will bring about a more inclusive society and we hope that the donation will bring joy for the children during Syawal,” he told the media at the 2024 UDA Ramadan Sinar event here tonight.
UDA Group Asset Management chief operating officer Azrudyn Rashid, Senior Vice-President, Investment and Property Management Division Mohd Nazri Jamiran and Rumah Kasih Tun Abdul Aziz Melaka principal Norhafizah Abdullah, as well as UDA management and staff also attended the event.
Mohd Salem said the donation also represents UDA’s involvement in supporting the country’s sustainability aspirations by focusing on social and economic activities to boost living standards and was in line with its rebranding of LFFE, Legacy, Integrated, Finesse and Enrich.
He also touched on Mprten Walk, which was a strategically-located entrepreneur hub along Sungai Melaka that would be a tourist attraction when 40 per cent of its business lots are occupied, with operations expected to begin in May or June.
"Conducive business areas have been prepared for bumiputera entrepreneurs with the potential of attracting tourists, as it is located in the traditional village of Kampung Morten, Melaka River Cruise (MRC) and Taming Sari Tower.
"It is our mission to see traders sell Melaka-related handicrafts when tourists visit, and they will be able to purchase all these, including food and drinks,” he said, adding that qualified traders would get below-market rental rates, incentives such as rental rebates and benefit from facilities offered.
