Traders' Wait For Comfortable Business Space Ends With Opening Of Pasar Besar Jertih

JERTIH, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- After an almost eight-year wait, 74 traders in Jertih Souq and its surrounding areas can finally breathe a sigh of relief as Pasar Besar Jertih officially opens its doors for business today, providing them with a more comfortable space to operate.

Previously, wet food traders there, for instance, were forced to operate within the car park near Jertih Souq, leading to numerous issues, especially during the flood season, resulting in damage to their goods and drops in sales.

The inconvenient location and cleanliness issues significantly affect trader income and customer turnout, prompting a strong desire among the traders to relocate to a more suitable location.

Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said that the construction of the two-storey Pasar Baru Jertih building, which concluded at the end of last year, is geared towards providing comfort for traders and customers in getting their various daily necessities.

“The original completion target for this market was set for April 2019, however, (the construction of this market was delayed) due to some technical problems and the COVID-19 pandemic...but the project was successfully completed at a cost of RM6 million,” he told reporters after officiating the market here today.

Ahmad Samsuri said the market, built next to Jertih Souq, features 74 business lots encompassing various sales spaces like wet food stalls, eateries, and clothing shops.
