Westwood Clinic Creates Re-mind Application For Early Detection Of Mental Distress

09/02/2024 03:32 PM

PETALING JAYA, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- In an effort to help people achieve good mental health, Westwood Clinic has created an application called Re-Mind under its Project Umbrella aimed at early detection of mental distress as well as providing support to sufferers with an intervention and advice.

According to its managing director Dr Jest Wong, the user-friendly mobile application for self-assessment is able to diagnose users’ mental states through 90 seconds of voice recordings.

“Our Re-Mind App uses advanced Artificial Intelligence technology to analyse voice recordings, helping users detect early signs of mental distress and recognise depression symptoms in the early stages.

“We are dedicated to supporting the community’s well-being in the face of a deepening crisis,” he told Bernama recently.

Wong said the application which was developed by Westwood Clinic’s in-house Information Technology and assisted by a team of psychologist team from My Mind Associates Sdn Bhd (MINDA), utilises level three deep learning machine learning known as Re-Mind.

Re-mind also deploys voice biomarkers to assess an individual's mental well-being, providing an understanding of emotional states and cognitive functions, while the integration of deep learning ensures a sophisticated and accurate screening, he said.

According to Wong, Re-Mind is a game-changer in mental health awareness as well as interventions.

“All you have to do is speak and think, and we do the rest. We listen to your voice and track your brainwave patterns, turning them into clues about your health and happiness,” he said.

Wong said that users could also choose a suggestive intervention that is backed by local and international universities’ experties before embarking on a journey of prevention as well as management of conditions like depression.

“We also collaborate with biotech companies which include Teda Wellness Solutions Sdn Bhd and also with non-governmental organisations such as Lions International, Business Networking Club Malaysia (BNC), Junior Chamber International (JCI) and Befriender Malaysia to demonstrate our commitment to making mental health resources accessible and effective,” he said.

In addition to Re-Mind, Westwood Clinic has also added ViewMind, an innovative engineering artificial intelligence neurofeedback technology on mental and cognitive assessment from the United States as one of the movements offered under Project Umbrella, he added.
