PUTRAJAYA, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- The Menyemai Kasih Rakyat (MEKAR) Diaspora programme in Saudi Arabia, held from Feb 1 to 6, managed 240 advisory services and assistance related to national registration matters for 135 Malaysians living in that country.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that among the services and advice offered are identity card renewal, birth certificate extraction and citizenship application.
“The MEKAR Diaspora programme will continue to be improved and implemented in other locations around the world, to provide services beyond the usual to Malaysians,” he said in a statement today.
The programme, organised by the National Registration Department (JPN) and held in conjunction with Saifuddin Nasution’s official visit to Saudi Arabia, is one of the five categories of the JPN MEKAR Programmes, which offer advisory services and assistance related to national registration matters, specifically for Malaysians living abroad.
According to him, the expansion of the programme abroad complements the aspirations of the Unity Government, which always places the highest priority on the well-being and prosperity of Malaysians, which is not limited to within the country.
“This includes the matter of national registration, which is the basis of being a Malaysian," he said.
