KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- Maxis Berhad brought Chinese New Year festive joy to underprivileged communities at Pusat Kebajikan Kalvari (PKK) Johor, PKK Kulai Healing Centre, and PKK Johor Bahru Boys and Girls Home with gifts of essential items, back-to-school sets, and hygiene kits.
In a statement today, Maxis said Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching joined its representatives and volunteers in the festive initiative and participated in a series of games, and traditional activities.
The communities were also treated to a delightful buffet lunch while fostering meaningful connections in the spirit of the Chinese New Year.
"Maxis also provided back-to-school supply sets for the children and hygiene kits for the senior citizens. While the PKK Kulai Centre received quality-of-life items such as new mattresses, several wheelchairs, adult diapers, and grocery supplies," the statement read.
PKK is a non-profit welfare organisation supporting over 500 individuals across 22 shelter homes, rehabilitation centres, and special education centres in Johor.
In the same statement, Teo thanked Maxis for organising the festive event.
"It is a tradition for us in Malaysia to celebrate the Chinese New Year together in an atmosphere of harmony and prosperity," she said.
Maxis chief corporate affairs officer Mariam Bevi Batcha said they were grateful for the opportunity to make a meaningful impact and bond with the local communities.
"As we celebrate Chinese New Year with our families, let’s remember to connect and extend our kindness beyond our homes into the community,” she said.
PKK chief operating officer Athens Chew also extended heartfelt gratitude to Maxis and the volunteers for their generous Chinese New Year contributions, as well as their compassion in illuminating the festive season for the community.
To make the celebration even more special, the public is invited to watch Maxis' Chinese New Year movie starring actors Jack Tan, DJs Maq, Yoon, and former national badminton player Goh Liu Ying.
They come together to courageously share their heartfelt thoughts to remind viewers of the beauty of expressing true feelings to loved ones. The movie is available on www.maxis.com.my/cny.
